They say that a film reflects the nature of a society upon which it is made. Then America is sick and pathetic filled with sex addicts, porn addicts, homosexuals, rapists and many such vices. I liked the film American Beauty, but what I don't like is the American style of overusing sexual elements when it comes to making films about family and society. Films like this tells that sex alone is the only problem in a family and sex alone shall be the solution to it all. I am sick of these sort of things. American Beauty tells you a story about a family which is breaking apart due to many of the above discussed reasons. But at no point in this film, does they tell you the importance of family. I have seen many awkward films relating to similar subject like The Kids Are All Right(2010), which was good, but was about Lesbians. If someone ask me about a good family film made in Hollywood, I would think about The Pursuit of Happyness(2006) and all, it may be due to a difference in prospective and all, who cares? Nevertheless, American Beauty is filled with a lot of fine performers for sure, of which Kevin Spacey is the best.
