Review of Amélie (2001) by Tom W — 30 Oct 2014
Achingly beautiful, beyond words. In French with English subtitles. My French is too rusty to be of much use, so I found myself reading all the subtitles. This was my only regret, because the film is so blindingly beautiful that I never wanted to take my eyes off it.
But fear not, the dialog is spare enough (appropriately-so for the story), that this did not prevent me from falling deeply in love with this movie. The cinematography is breath-taking. The lead actress is perfect (don't let the overly coy movie poster art throw you).
And the soundtrack - oh, the soundtrack. Brings tears to my eyes. The soundtrack is a gift to mankind.
