Review of Amelia (2009) by Bruce W — 06 May 2010
Hillary Swank really puts herself out there in this flick - it couldn't have been easy to get into Amelia's character, and she does a really good job of taking the time to try and capture even the cadence of the way Amelia Earhart spoke.
I thought the film did a good job of exposing the heart of this brave and amazing woman, including how exploited she was at times. The storyline did seem to get slow and I found my attention drifting off every once in awhile.
I think I would have found it more interesting if the story had been more focused on her in first-person more often. I found the people around her to be on the tedius side, at times - but maybe that was kinda supposed to be the point.
It's worth a watch on a lazy, rainy or snowy afternoon, and I agree with another reviewer - this is a good one to watch with Grandma. And even though you already know what happens at the end, it doesn't take anything away from the movie.
You find yourself fascinated by this woman and really hoping that something different will happen this time around...
