Review of Amazon Women on the Moon (1987) by Slider1983 — 14 Jan 2020
Amazon Women on the Moon fails to be as funny or as clever as it could be. The first person framework is a terrific idea but it doesn’t deliver the same successful comedy that Kentucky Fried Movie did.
Blame can be put on either the lack of ZAZ or the fact most of jokes don’t work as well as they could. Some jokes aren’t funny; some jokes are clever but lack substance beyond their initial concept however some sketches are well written and directed.
The all-star cast is fun to watch and the directors do the best job they can with the material but it all hinges on the jokes, few which are very well done. It’s about finding a diamond in the rough.
..or some diamonds. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t. In a way finding a good sketch is no different to flicking through TV channels every day.
