Review of Amarcord (1973) by Virginia G — 19 Jul 2007
I wouldn't say I'm a Fellini expert but I've seen all the ones of his that people say are the best and I'm confused because I love this one the most. 8 1/2 is boring and Juliet of the Spirits is fragmented and scary and La Dolce Vita still makes me cry but only because it tries so hard.
La Strada is also great, but Amarcord is alive in the rare way that your private memories are always alive to you. Amarcord is natural and laps at your ankles like the sea that the crazy devil dancing lady calls home.
