Review of Amarcord (1973) by Jason R — 06 Jan 2009
One of the greatest dick-and-fart joke movies ever made. But I never realized just how deeply this one film in particular has informed, and in many senses created, Woody Allen's entire career. "Radio Days," of course, is deeply indebted to it, but so is "Annie Hall.
" It also occurred to me, though, that, unlike Bergman's influence, Fellini's influence comes from a place of shared experience. The family in "Amarcord" bears a striking resemblance to the family in the aforementioned Allen films, suggesting a strong bond between rural Italian Catholicism and Brooklyn Judaism.
