Review of Amadeus (1984) by Hugo V — 01 Jul 2015
As close to perfection as one can get.
The story is of the immature yet brilliant Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the plot to rid the world of Mozart by third rate musician Antonio Salieri.
What makes this film so great would be the story telling through the viewpoint of the tortured Antonio. Abraham gives one of the finest performances that I have seen. Is Salieri a bad man that is hard to say. Contemplate the good things that he has done for others, yet his efforts fall to deaf ears when Mozart comes. It is the man's dream to create good music for God, although he lacks the talent to perform great music he is cursed with the ability to understand and know what first rate talent is when others do not.
Mozart is an interesting case. He is immature and does not take his genius seriously., although he does indeed know that he is the best and not afraid to say it. Because of this he makes a mockery out of others even if he does not mean to.
The characters and the performances are good, but the script really gets the film going. There is never a dull moment and each scene is crafted like an artist.
There is little to no complaints. One of the greatest movies of all time.
