Review of Alvin and the Chipmunks Meet Frankenstein (1999) by Chad H — 27 Oct 2012
I absolutely loved this movie as a child. Its no masterpiece I am well aware of that, but its a fun little kids flick for all to enjoy. It is very dated at this point in time, but it has that great Halloween feel that the 90's gave us. All kinds of networks had an array of spooky movies for the month of October, it was a fun time had by many many children growing up in the 90's. This movie brought me back to those peaceful days as a child, it really made me feel good inside.
But alas this is not entirely what movies rely on, however it is a major component in a great film.
Its typical chipmunks and nothing else, it really feels like an extended version of the television series but that is completely fine. If you were a fan before I say look for this movie at target, it comes as a double feature.
In short...
The movie is probably best enjoyed by fans, kids will like it but not the parents. I was glad to see however that they didn't call the monster Frankenstein, its actually the doctor whose name was Frankenstein. The animation is pretty decent, and the songs are catchy with everyone's favorite chipmunk kind of twist.
Kids should definitely see this during the Halloween season, I recommend it.
