Review of Altered States (1980) by Art S — 18 Feb 2011
I wanted to give myself up to Ken Russell and experience Altered States, and, for a time (in fact all the way through the Mexican experience, which features, yes, a drug made from mushrooms), I thought this might be a good movie.
And then...ridiculousness. But really, this was to be expected. William Hurt is truly eccentric in his first movie role. Some of the special effects (not the ape man, but the 2001 freak-outs) are worth seeing at any rate.
