Review of Altered States (1980) by Justin A — 28 Aug 2012
William Hurt eats some mushrooms, jumps in a think tank and becomes a caveman. Well, that was about the jist of it. This was basically like The Cell meets The Lawnmower Man meets The Fly. I liked a lot of the imagery, even if the plot was a little thin.
The performances were good, but my interest would come and go in the movie. This is a tough movie to judge because it's so different. I didn't hate it or love it, and the solid direction and good acting make it hard to just completely dismiss.
I would probably suggest it, but with a fair warning that it's a bit bizarre.
