Review of Alphaville (1965) by Andy G — 21 Mar 2008
As my first foray into Godard, Alphaville was a pretty big disappointment. The beginning started off nicely, but the entire middle section was not very compelling at all, to the point that Godard's unique direction couldn't save it. I enjoyed a few parts here and there, but I found myself dozing off too. Only Anna Karina's beauty was its saving grace, and it is something that has nothing to do with the actual film. Aside from that, I was waiting for it to end.
...After some classmates' presentation on the film, I have a newfound interest in watching Alphaville again, for they said that they didn't "get it" the first time either. Until then, 3 stars will do.
