Review of Alpha Dog (2006) by Sv G — 17 Mar 2010
Nick Cassavetes directs and did the screenplay as well for this true life crime story from the late 90s in California. Excellent cast and performances by Justin Timberlake, Ben Foster and Emile Hirsch among others, as well as by the elders fo the cast Bruce Willis, Harry Dean Stanton and Sharon Stone.
It is called by it's own director, 'a cautionary tale' and that is on many levels. It's not easy to watch at times and makes no real excuses other than to tell the story and points out all the way along all the witnesses who sadly did nothing at all to prevent what may have been prevented.
Great script and great performances that never lag. My only qualm would be the very cheesy make-up on Sharon Stone at the end that looked so amatuer, but her performances makes up for that for the most part.
