Review of Alpha (2018) by Daniel_Endure — 16 Aug 2018
Alpha was visually stunning to look at on the big-screen. Each shot is breathtaking. My mouth was open for the entire 90 minutes. It felt like a mix between Planet Earth, The Revenant, & The Last Guardian.
The relationship between the boy and the wolf felt genuine and I was eagerly anticipating them having a successful journey together. However, the movie is heavily focused on themes of hunting & starvation to the point that it felt somewhat repetitive.
And, an unnecessary flash forward sequence at the beginning of the film strips away tension from the following twenty minutes or so. Nevertheless, I'd recommend one see it, whether it be in the theater or at home in a viewing quarter worthy of this beautiful piece of film.
