Review of Allied (2016) by Abb J — 27 Nov 2016
Allied: Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard star in this World War II period piece about a couple of spies who fall in love and get married, only for Pitt to discover that Cotillard might be a double agent who must be killed.
The first 30 minutes, in which the couple plots to assassinate the German ambassador in Casablanca, is gripping and well done despite set design that looks more like a Hollywood soundstage than Morocco.
For the rest of the film, however, director Robert Zemeckis leads a chemistry-lacking Pitt and Cotillard into a mildly entertaining realm of unlikely, contrived storylines. Meh. B-.
