Review of Allied (2016) by Steven B — 30 Nov 2016
Quite a few Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone showed up for this throw back to the 40s and 50s romantic war moves. I am told this was based on a true story, at least in part. The movie centers on the relationship between Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, both with stellar performances.
The movie is, for the most part, filmed in the old style as well. Some of the key scenes are driven by the 1938 Carnegie Hall Benny Goodman recording of 'Sing, Sing, Sing.' with the outstanding work of Gene Krupa on drums.
The action, and sex, sequences are well done. I liked this a lot, it's a tad long, but still a good date nighty movie or a way to spend a cold afternoon.
