Review of Allegiant (2016) by Wael K — 27 Jul 2016
"The "Divergent" series has definitely hit it's pause button".

WOW! Has this series gone downhill! "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is the most boring of the three movies so far and bad news people, there's one more movie left. Shailene Woodley I thought was the right actress to lead this YA franchise even though it was ripping-off "The Hunger Games" but as the series continues to get worse with each new chapter, I feel now that Woodley deserves better than this. Just like with the final chapters of "Harry Potter", "Twilight" and "Hunger Games", the dumb studio executives decide to split the last book into two movies all for the purpose of making more money.
The relationship between Woodley and Theo James has never been more dull and the clunky storylines get more dumb and dumber.
Speaking of dumb and dumber, franchise newcomer Jeff Daniels plays David, the.
Leader of a futuristic city located outside of Chicago which is protected by a giant wall. After the death of Jeanine (Kate Winslet) from the last movie, Four's mother, Evelyn (Naomi Watts, clearly cashing a paycheck) and her soldiers have retaken Chicago and decide to execute the remaining Dauntless assailants including Tris' brother, Caleb (Ansel Elgort). Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) decide to break Caleb out from his cell and along with Peter (Miles Teller) and Christina (Zoe Kravitz), they decide to climb the giant wall and escape the city.
Now branded as traitors, Tris and her group walk through a sandy wasteland where it's always raining blood and suddenly they find a cloaking field to another dystopian land. Tris and her group are then transported to the Bureau of Genetic Welfare, a very classy futuristic city and it's run by the film's bad guy, David (Daniels). He claims to have watched Tris everyday since she was born and they have been waiting for her to show up for a long time. I can obviously see why. Four knows that the bureau is bad news for Tris and they must escape immediately but David already has plans for them.
Back in Chicago, Johanna's (Octavia Spencer) Allegiant group is in a ravaging conflict with Evelyn's factionless and an all-out war could be coming. "The Divergent Series" should definitely hit it's pause button. The filmmakers have run out of reasons to care about these characters and the direction by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan, RED, R.I.P.D. and The Divergent Series: Insurgent) feels hapless and phoned-in. "Allegiant" doesn't have anything interesting to say about it's ideas and the screenplay is a total mess.
With bad performances and cheesy effects to boot, "The Divergent Series: Allegiant" is the movie equivalent of space junk.
