Review of Allegiant (2016) by Katie W — 20 Jul 2016
Whew was this film bad. The plot was drawn out and boring, the overtly-serious tone contrasting the incredibly silly moments just made the film incredibly cheesy. My sister had read the book (I couldn't stomach anything past the first one) and was surprised when it ended that it was not the last film in the series.
I laughed when I saw that the final release is now going direct to TV. I'm not surprised. I hope that this opens a lot of filmmakers eyes and stops the unnecessary stretching of films for profit. The main reason that Harry Potter started this unfortunate trend was because the book was 607 pages long.
That is a lot of material to cover. While Allegiant apparently has 526 pages to cover, from the way that this plot in this film happened, I am assuming a great many of those pages are useless fluff. Hollywood: please stop adding extra films to a series.
They don't need it.
