There are elements of Allegiant that build on the strengths of the former two films. There are elements that I also felt should have been stronger given it's place as the third in the series.

The story itself is more pronounced here, with much of the complicated puzzle already being in place. That means less meandering.

The performances seem rushed here though, where the chemistry of the previous films should have held it more intact.

The entire Divergent series is a product of it's literary source, and while the second film deviated somewhat from the script, it remains fairly bound to the book. This isn't a bad thing, but as I mentioned in my review of the previous film, the fact that people might be tiring of the YA formula likely gives this whole franchise an tall hill to climb.

I thought this was the last film in the franchise. It ends rather abruptly, and so it makes sense that (in true modern fashion) they have broken this final film in to two parts. So time will tell how the series chooses to end the story arch itself. I know that I felt the final Hunger Games suffered the most from this two-part split. We will see if the final one can be a little bit more spirited.
