Review of All This, and Heaven Too (1940) by Michele C — 01 May 2009
Bette Davis is my favorite actress and this is my favorite Bette Davis movie. The entire cast gave stellar performances. I remember staying up late as a child to watch this and other Davis films with my parents. Which is why it was often difficult for me to get up early some mornings to go to school. I don't know how I managed to get straight A's and graduate at the top of my class.
Davis' acting is compelling, restrained, controlled and a marvelous counterpoint to Charles Boyer's empassioned presence. This is yet another tale of unrequited love with superb directing. Max Steiner's masterful music score puts the cherry atop a flawless cake.
