Review of All the Pretty Horses (2000) by Gordon S — 08 Jan 2008
It was hard for me watching this knowing that Thornton had a 192m cut of the film that all who have seen have claimed to be a minor masterpiece. As it is the film does feel somewhat episodic and really could have done with slowing down sometimes.
That with standing, this version is far from the disappointment many (particularly critics) would have us believe. The relationships feel true; particularly Damon and Thomas' and even Damon's short interaction with Bruce Dern and the score and cinematography do help transport the audience into the world of the characters.
Moving and gentle stuff.
