Review of All the President's Men (1976) by Adam T — 09 Aug 2008
Could this be the greatest political drama ever made? Quite possibly. "All the President's Men" is a film about the two Washington Post reporters who almost single-handedly uncovered the truth behind the Watergate scandal, and it's an immensely gritty, riveting and suspenseful work.
The script and performances are both outstanding (Hoffman and Redford are both at the top of their game, and that's a hell of a lot of game), and it possesses an almost unbelievable level of realism, which it creates by casting intense focus on every minute detail of the journalists' investigation.
This is one of the finest masterpieces of '70s cinema, and one of the most astonishing (and true!) thrillers ever crafted. Absolutely brilliant.
