Review of All the Money in the World (2017) by Richard S — 20 Aug 2018
The story follows the kidnapping of Paul Getty III in 1973. The kidnappers had the intention of forcing his grandfather, J.Paul Getty, the founder of the Getty Oil Company and at that time the richest man in the world to pay a ransom of $17 million. Little did the kidnappers realise that J.Paul Getty had no intention of paying any ransom money and so begins a tense story of the boy's mother played really well by Michelle Williams desperately trying to convince the only man who can secure her son's freedom to pay up.
I thought the film was really good. Christopher Plummer does a sterling job playing the billionnaire who refuses to pay for the safety of his grandson although I am curious as to how the original star Kevin Spacey would have played it too. Romain Duris was also good, playing the only kidnapper who seemed to have any concern for the boy they were holding and was also desperate for a resolution before those around him turn to desperate and more violent measures.
