Review of All That Jazz (1979) by Tristan J — 07 Jun 2007
It has been said that All That Jazz is little more than a lengthy display of Bob Fosse?s enormous ego. Perhaps this is so, but if it is, I don?t care one bit. In my eyes, All That Jazz is as perfect as films can get.
Joe Gideon?s decline is fascinating and Roy Schneider delivers his strongest performance as Fosse?s film counterpart. I?ve always been one for metaphors and so the representation of death and the visions of Gideon?s life taking place on the stage become the most powerful parts of the movie for me.
All That Jazz is one of few films which I would not hesitate to call a masterpiece in every way.
