Review of All That Jazz (1979) by David S — 14 Oct 2008
A frantic autobiography of its director, Bob Fosse, All That Jazz is the proverbial musical you recommend to people who don't like traditional musicals. It's surreally sentimental finale ("Hospital room fantasy scene, take one!") may put off viewers who were grooving with Scheider's gritty take on Fosse, but I thought it was an appropriate fantasy finale for a show business man.
Scheider gives a standout performance (deserved an Oscar too), and the best musical number is by far Air Erotica. Wow. . . just wow.
