Review of All That Heaven Allows (1955) by Ed M — 02 Feb 2008
Gorgeous cinematography cannot even begin to save this "classic" example of melodramatic drivel. The film does boost some fine performances, but the material is severely dated and the scenario to schmaltzy to handle.
It's long, boring, and did I mention overly melodramatic? Two later films adapted from this source material, Ali: Fear Eats the Soul and Far from Heaven, are superior in every which way you can imagine; they take the backbone of this "classic" and make a much truer statement of the times.
