Review of All Star Superman (2011) by Brendan O — 23 Feb 2011
All-Star Superman aspired to be to completely different from previous installments, with some promising ideas but quickly and absolutely falls apart. The lack of focus and tense rivals even The Last Airbender, jumping from one subplot to another and completely ridden with poorly executed guest appearances from D-List DC characters, leaving no impact or impression.
But what really important is Superman, never before in any movie or the cartoon, has Supes been such a mary-sue, the writing is so underdeveloped, by the end their no growth and this clown voicing Superman is such a miscast.
Anthony LaPaglia and Christina Hendricks are not much better, attributing to the half-assed characterization for the most part, but then again, I would rather look at Christina Hendricks and her awesome rockin' rack, then listen to this phoned-in performance.
The comic-relief in All-Star Superman is really forced, case in point; Jimmy Olsen is a f'n cross-dresser, going to let that sink in. It also seems that DC animated movies had become all about the pretty animation, beautifully detailed but leave an empty feeling because of the story's shallowness.
In the end, aside from the poor casting, the over-dependence on animation, the lame story that lack structure and horribly insulting, this was a train-wreck, really was.
