Review of All Star Superman (2011) by Brett B — 10 Jan 2013
This would be the weirdest entry in the animated superhero feature collection I've seen so far, if it had been more interesting. It feels like it was a collection of smaller adventures and battles engaged in by Superman with the overall character arch of how he is facing imminent death from solar exposure (somehow).
The problem is that the movie barely focuses on the fact that he is dying; so much so that I forgot about it occasionally. He never really seems terribly concerned at any point. The narrative is so hopelessly chopped up that I didn't even realize part of the story was that the sun was going nova.
Weirder still, Superman actually does die at the end. He's Superman, he can't die. Very strange movie. Not missing much by passing it up, and it only made me wish I was watching the animated series instead.
That was way more fun.
