Review of All Star Superman (2011) by Jiana W — 22 May 2011
Terribly bad. Horrendous. Awful. One, the animation is absolutely atrocious. Everyone and everything is so stiff you would think this was made back in the 70s. But heck, even Disney's animation back in the 70s didn't look like this. Two, the plot.... Superman realizes he is sick and dying, thus he attempts to do the things that he wouldn't normally have done if he were healthy and well (like taking Lois Lane on a sweet date and allowing her to experience his powers for 24 hours.) By the way, this sequence, arguably, is probably the best one in the entire movie and the premise itself is a great, reflective one.
But everything else that followed was just a big, quivering mass of garbeldy-gook and crap that didn't make sense. There was just way too much happening in this-- WAY too much. Characters are thrown in randomly and only for a few minutes tops, with no real ties to the actual plot itself and thus leaves you wondering what the heck they're there for in the first place. Just because "All Star" is in the title doesn't mean you have to throw in any and everybody you can, especially when their presence makes no sense.
And why the heck is Jimmy Olson cross-dressing? One of the workers at the Daily Planet asks him if he's undercover and he says, "No. Why?" From then on, he shows up dressed like a woman and you have NO IDEA WHY until the end when he's back in normal guy clothing again. Come on, DC and Warner. You can do much better than this.
