Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Philip E — 26 Dec 2007
I think it was the 1979 adaption. Yes, it was most definitely the 1979 adaption: I saw that first and I enjoyed it, even though most will be quick to dismiss it as inferior.
I think both versions did a fine job of demonstrating the annihilation of youth and human decency, but I simply could not stomach the overdone acting found in this version, especially that of the actor playing Paul...the acting denied me an element of believability that is crucial to my enjoyment of any war movie.
