Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Paul C — 19 Feb 2009
I expected to hate this movie. I expected to be bored. It's over 2 hours long, filmed in 1930, and all about war. I'm not big on any of these things. But this movie was amazing. It kept my attention.
And while the acting wasn't exactly top notch, the story telling was superb. The stunts were fantastic, and some of the shots were clearly experimental and yet came across so perfect. This is the grandfather of all war movies.
This is the war movie that all other war movies should be compared against (and clearly inspired by).
