Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Natalie M — 27 Jun 2012
An incredible anti- war film made on the cusp of silent & sound. I was impressed of the sound quality so early considering how many other films of the era & far inferior. There are quite a few impacting scenes, one that stayed out was when the lead actor killed a French officer in his trench & due to location was stuck with him for days & the physiological battle he had with death.
The acting wasn't too bad either & I really appreciated how direct & straightforward the scenes where.
The battle sequences in the trenches where fantastic, it really put you there. To have a film capture the horrors of WW1 just under ten years after it ceased was incredible & final sequence is quite impressive & will stay with you.
