Review of All Quiet on the Western Front (1930) by Keith H — 05 Jan 2014
It is hard to watch this seminal film now and understand how powerful, original and challenging it must have been been. One of the earliest talking movies, told in a theatrical series of set pieces, the film created so many powerful images and scenes that have now lost there potency because so many others have repeated them so they are now tropes.
Completed three years before Hitler came to power, the film now carries with it more power and poignancy because of subsequent history. Makes some time to watch this!
