Review of All Over the Guy (2001) by David G — 27 Jun 2008
A romantic comedy about two gay men who have a disastrous and awkward blind date but then bump into each other later and begin a real relationship. It was actually quite refreshing to see a movie with gay people that didn't come off as either cliche or trite.
The writing is snappy-- but can I say it? The acting is a bit stiff, especially at the beginning. I was almost tempted to stop watching, it was simply so painful at first, but I decided to stick it out because the dialogue was decent-- and I'm glad I did.
You warm up to these people, because despite them being such constant assholes to each other you can't help but recognize a bit of yourself in each of them. Combine that with some memorable funny cameos by Andrea Martin and Doris Roberts and this isn't actually a bad way to spend a couple of hours.
Give it a try.
