Great acting by Redford, but nothing new here. Guy lost at sea. Guy battles the weather, sharks, and nuisance technical challenges. Man is saved (of course) by a random passing boat. Hello? Really? But great acting by Redford.
Maybe that is worth it. But we all felt very "wow, how many times can Hollywood us ehtis exact same story." Critics give it good reviews for Redford; not for sroty. That is how Hollywood plays and shows respect.
