Review of All Is Lost (2013) by Georgebillym — 25 Dec 2014
There is a hefty sense of dread that you share with Redford's lead. What's really immersive about this film is that it relies on the situation to build tension and atmosphere. In this respect, it succeeds greatly. Although there are only extremely mysterious glimpses into the reason the protagonist finds himself in this environment, the shared hopelessness with character and audience makes up for the lack of nuance.
Lastly, people that say Redford can't hold the screen for the run time are just plain wrong in my opinion. He's a fine actor and he succeeds at getting people on his side without dialogue. Not many actors have earned that merit.
