Review of All Eyez on Me (2017) by Joe D — 27 May 2018
This movie was way too preachy for me. I was really disappointed too because I'm a huge Tupac fan and movies about music are my favorite genre so I was really excited to see this one but the film couldn't go 5 minutes without something related to politics or social justice so it became such a turn off for me.
This movie would have been a lot better had they touched on these matters but still kept the focus on Tupacs life but the story got drowned out because it feels like they're trying to push an agenda.
The funny thing was during Tupac's first meeting with Interscope Records they were talking about the song, Brenda's Got A Baby, and how it was too raw for the masses. The record exec turns to Tupac and says, "This is going too far, people just want to be entertained.
" In this case, yes, that is exactly correct. I just wanted to be entertained by a movie about one of my favorite musicians but instead I got lectured to by CNN. At first I was going to give it one star but they kept playing the classic Tupac songs and showing how he made them so that in itself made me give it an extra star but I can't go further than that.
I'll stick to watching Tupac: Resurrection and listening to his groundbreaking, extremely influential music because both of those are ten times better than this film.
