Review of All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001) by Daniel T — 08 Apr 2009
This is a brilliant movie, with an equally great soundtrack. For the critics who said this movie was hard to follow, they're trying too hard. I loved the way Yuichi's life and thoughts paralleled Lily Chou-Chou's career, even the kendo team and the trip to Okinawa felt like makeshift parts of a rock documentary.
It's a gritty portrayal of the dark side of adolesence in Japan, and one can't help but find similarities in America's youth. I found this movie by accident, and it was probably the greatest accidental pick I ever made.
