Review of All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001) by Aaron N — 22 Apr 2009
Incredibly self-indulgent. At times this film does a great job at capturing the moments and feelings of a youth struggling to find a place in school. But this just takes it way too far to the point where there wasn't really a storyline because I felt like the creators didn't really have a story.
They had an idea and forced some broken world into it. The online jargon was annoying and was so forced. The creators want people to watch this and think "look at how deep and disturbed this is." That wasn't the case at all.
The concept was fine, but trying to make every detail in this film more dramatic and meaningful left me bored and BEGGING to leave the theatre. The last hour of this film didn't do anything. It could have ended and left the same impression.
..boredom.
