Review of All About Lily Chou-Chou (2001) by Alexandra G — 15 Aug 2008
"Used and worn. Damaged and torn. Youth.".
I watched this movie because of Salyu who plays a pop-idol called Lily Chou-Chou. In the film, her music represents a refuge for several teenage kids. And the soundtrack is indeed stunning (Salyu, album: Breathe/Kokyuu).
The concept is great and I am a big fan of coming-of-age-films. However, I felt that something was missing...
This movie requires patience as it is rather lengthy, slow paced and has a confusing structure. Nevertheless, this particular depiction of teen-alienation and powerlesness makes an uniquely lonely film.
