Review of All About Evil (2010) by Archibald T — 01 Mar 2013
The Victoria Theater has long since brought horror movies to the masses. The owner, Walter Tennis, sadly passes away and left the theater to his daughter Deborah. She always wanted to be an actress and to make her father proud. Her mother is a vicious bitch who wants to shut down the theater and sell it to whomever for loads of cash. Deborah doesn't take kindly to this since years of shyness and having to put up with her and other people's shit have finally struck a cord in her synapses.
She finally snaps and as a result she viciously murders her mother. As she does this, she quotes the classics from 'Friday the 13th', 'Psycho' and 'Wizard of Oz'. All the while being recorded on surveillance video, she accidentally projects the footage of her killing her mother onto the screen for the audience to see. They love it and she becomes a great big star in the community. Of course, one short movie isn't going to be enough at least for her now that she's the star she always wanted to be. Deborah's inner serial killer has been unleashed in a seductively domineering way.
So she with her assistant Mr. Twigs along with two insane twins and a slob for a robber set out to make more gruesome short snuff movies. They're mainly short promo ads to show before the movies to remind the audience to not use their cellphones. A tale of two severed titties reminds us that at the Victorian Theater, if you use your cellphone, you better look out for your tits for they may get chopped off! Many of the films deal with Victorian era themes and literature. Slightly altered for murderous effect.
The theater reminds me a little bit of the Elgin. Very nostalgic with the midnight movie crowd. Much of the film is a homage to horror movies and to horror theater viewing. Natasha Lyonne gives a devilishly wonderful performance. If there was one flaw it'd be the subplot of Steven, the horror movie geek who has a thing for Deborah. Still it doesn't distract too much from the sinister going ons at the Victoria Theater.
