Review of All About Eve (1950) by Laimis Z — 02 Nov 2008
I didn't know much about this when I caught it on TCM, other than it had won a lot of awards. It was so good! The beginning seems rather unconventional for its time - actually, the whole film kind of does.
It is SO creepy. The bitchy Broadway star takes in a starry-eyed fan as an assistant, who's a little too good at her job. She becomes rightfully paranoid about it, but everyone else sees her as an ingrate because the girl has done nothing but nice things for her.
The more she gets drunk and freaks out about it, the more the girl digs her heels into her life. CREEPY. It made me think of movies like Single White Female, which obviously took some inspiration from this film.
Good stuff. Marilyn Monroe also has a funny cameo as a dumb blond, which she did so well.
