Review of All About Eve (1950) by Lana E — 21 Jan 2009
Bitingly sharp showbiz satire starring Bette Davis as a fading theatre star who takes in a destitute fan, only to realise she is being usurped from her throne. Davis delivers a definitive performance, full of malice and humour, while George Sanders is wonderfully droll as a critic who pulls some strings of his own, but the real star is the script.
Dry, acerbic and hilarious, it's certainly a classic from Hollywood's Golden Age. Watch and savour.
