Review of All About Eve (1950) by Michael C — 13 Feb 2009
An interesting classic drama detailing a young, pretty obsessive fan's quest to ibnvade every facet of a classic actress's social circle in order to ascend the ladder to fame. The pace was a tad slow for me at times, but overall I get why the movie is so beloved, and it makes sense.
And it is a very good film, honestly; Anne Baxter's Eve Harrington is a terrific manipulative, scheming semi-villain, and watching her efforts to seduce everyone into supporting her to ascension is a delight to watch.
And even though I am not a huge Bette Davis fan, she is great here as a skilled actress passing the peak of her performing days and struggling to not be outraged by the young Eve's attempts to replace her.
