Review of All About Eve (1950) by Miko S — 10 Mar 2010
All of my love of film, all of my reason for loving movies- the characters, the dialogue- has something to do with this, and His Girl Friday, and North by Northwest, and Sunset Boulevard, as far as the classics go. I LOVE this movie. I have no real reason to list every reason because it is clearly being done in every other review. this IS the maturational process in competitive public America.
There was an Eve in every place I ever worked, or I WAS the EVE.
There is a subset of the population of the world where we pass through puberty as Eve Harrington and fade into old age as Margo Channing. I was part of that subset: this movie means so much to me.
And then there's the cynical guy in this movie who really WAS cynical, and committed suicide not much after the movie was out.
This movie is pure theater, and yet SO real.
