Review of All About Eve (1950) by Marilyn T — 03 Jun 2011
Six Academy Awards went to this witty and cynical story about backstage life on Broadway. Bette Davis turns in her finest performance as the aging mega-star, Margot Channing. She meets her match in the outwardly sweet, but conniving understudy, Eve Harrington, who's played to perfection by Anne Baxter.
The entire cast sizzles, especially George Sanders, who won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as Addison DeWitt, the acid-tongued theatrical writer. Director Joseph L. Mankiewicz won oscars for his superb direction and script, which contains deliciously memorable dialogue.
A must-see classic.
