Review of Alive (1993) by Paula Z — 24 Jul 2007
Ethan Hawke as an Uruguayan? I think the casting was way off. Despite that mistake, I find that this is still a pretty damn good film. I think it was highly underrated and overlooked.
Read the book, I urge you. It is much better, more accurate to the true story and less coated. But if not then at least check this movie out. It's a powerful testament to the human condition, to human strength and willpower. It?s all about suffering, all about the love and beauty of life against the ugliest side of nature, and the fight between mind over matter. I remember watching this as a kid and being amazed by these young men?s sad story. And fuck the Catholic bitches that saw their search for survival as sinful cannibalism. They were already dead! Just flesh and bone. If I were to die in a plane crash in the middle of the Andes Mountains, and you were stuck with no food, I'd give you permission to eat my tasty butt cheeks. Zombie or not, I?d give you permission ;).
