Review of Alita: Battle Angel (2019) by Dharma — 15 Feb 2019
Writing a review here on this website about how the critics are wrong have been commonplace these days. Yet, many times it is indeed the case, especially with ALITA, which they slammed. What the critics did not get was the fact that Rodriguez and Cameron are making a 'live action ANIME'.
The so called disjointed plot? If you read the manga, then it is a distillation of the so called episodic nature of the original work. Critics slammed something that they don't understand. They refer to Marvel flicks as accurate yet when Alita stays true to its original manga, they said differently.
Suffice to say, Alita is spell bounding, with breathtaking effects that made you believe that an anime style character is alive and breathing. Kudos for Rosa Salazar for bring her A game here as the main character.
This is also Rodriguez's best work in his career. Working with the great James Cameron does great wonders to his usual 'style'. Again, see this on the biggest screen possible. It is worth that extra ticket price.
