Review of Aliens (1986) by John T — 08 Jan 2015
It's not really a sequel, as director Cameron approaches the story more as a sci-fi action thriller than gothic horror story -- which was the original's theme.
Don't bother with the director's cut. It adds a half-hour of energy-draining unnecessary content, and thus is less intense than the original theatrical release.
The movie holds up well over time. Its anti-corporate stance, portrayed with droll humor, is even more relevant in today's world of one-percenters than it was back in the '80s.
The last 45 minutes are as intense and exciting as anything in the movies. That might be saying a lot, but it's true.
