Review of Aliens (1986) by Willie H — 09 Jun 2015
Not many sequels are better than the original. But this one is rarity. The reason why this works so well is because it's completely different film than the original. While the first was a slow burn horror film, this is a complete action movie with some good horror sequences.
With the effects and production way up. Even though I saw this in 2015, it looks just as good as any film today. It's just a continuation of the original character in a different genre of film. With Newt, who many people believe is an annoyance, I believe is great character.
She doesn't do much, but she raises the stakes when you put someone that REALLY doesn't belong there in the thick of it. She also brings out a softer side in Ripley we didn't see in the original.
The only real (while small) issue I have is that these aliens, who in the original are terrifying, in this they come off as weak and just cannon fodder. But that's what you get when you make the transition to an action film.
This shows James Cameron's films were a lot better in the past. This is probably his best work, along with T2. Unlike those overrated movies of his current days (Titanic and Avatar). Aliens, complete masterpiece.
