Review of Alien³ (1992) by Brandon W — 10 Feb 2016
When I went to the library, I rented a lot of movies so that I can relive my memories of watching them again, and writing a review for them. The one that took a bit of room was the Alien Quadrilogy. I've seen them before also, but I don't remember much of the films except for Aliens which I watched the most.
So I'll go ahead and start with Ridley's Scott's Alien, which is a fantastic start. The cast is really great in this, and so is Sigourney Weaver. When people said that they know every character in this movie, I thought that they were just diehard fans on the Alien series, but they were right as I find all of the characters memorable, and the movie spends time on each of the characters so that we would know things about a particular character.
The story by Dan O' Bannon and Ronald Shusett is very good, and I'm sure that it was original at that time. The alien design by H.R Giger is terrifyingly good, and it would always be one of the horror icons.
The writing by Dan O' Bannon is well done and there's never a scene that was unnecessary for him to write in. I do like that the film not only focuses on the computer and green screen effects, but also on the practical effects like the spaceship for example which you can see the little details they put in there, and it looks like a legitimate place.
Even though that the pacing is a slow burner here, I was still invested in the film, and the scares are very effective which got me even more interested. While Alien may not be the scariest film that I've ever seen, it is definitely the scariest Science Fiction film, and that alone is good enough.
